Part 1: Repatriation Procedure

International repatriation is the process of bringing a deceased person from one country to another. In Singapore, this involves coordination with overseas funeral homes, airlines, the National Environment Agency (NEA), Singapore Customs, and immigration authorities. Here is the step-by-step procedure your family should expect.

Step 1 — Immediate Contact (Within 30 Minutes)

Contact a licensed repatriation provider as soon as possible. Provide the deceased's name, location (hospital, hospice, or residence), and the country of death. The provider will assign a dedicated case manager who will be your single point of contact throughout the entire process.

Keep the deceased's identification documents (passport, NRIC) and any medical or death-related documents accessible. Note the name and contact of the attending hospital or funeral home overseas.

Step 2 — Documentation & Legal Requirements

Your repatriation provider will coordinate with the overseas funeral home, hospital, or embassy to prepare all required documents: local death certificate, embalming certificate (if applicable), sealed casket certificate, export permit from the origin country, and airline documentation.

In Singapore, the National Environment Agency (NEA) requires an import permit for all human remains entering the country. Your provider handles this — you do not need to visit any government office.

Step 3 — Transport Arrangement

Your provider will arrange the most appropriate transport: air freight for international repatriation, overland transport from Malaysia via the Causeway or Second Link, or sea transport from nearby Indonesian islands.

Step 1 — Choose Your Faith Tradition

Select your family's religious tradition: Taoist, Buddhist, Christian, Catholic, or Freethinker. Each tradition has its own rituals, altar setup, and service structure. Your choice determines the items included in your funeral package.

Step 2 — Select Your Venue

Choose between a void deck (HDB void deck beneath your home), Sin Ming Funeral Parlour, another funeral parlour, or a private residence. Each venue has different logistics, capacity, and cost considerations.

Void deck funerals require HDB approval. Condo venues require MCST approval for tentage. Funeral parlours offer a dedicated, climate-controlled venue with private facilities.

Step 3 — Determine Service Duration

Funeral services typically run 3–5 days. The standard package includes 3 days; additional days are charged at a daily rate. Consider the time family members need to travel, the number of visitors expected, and any religious requirements for specific durations.

💡 Tip

Taoist and Buddhist traditions may include 49-day spirit resting (安灵) at the funeral parlour, which can be added as an optional service.

Step 4 — Select Inclusions & Add-ons

Review the items included in your package — casket, hearse, pallbearers, embalming, floral arrangements, tentage, mobile toilet, fridge, bus, and religious ritual items. You can untick any items you don't need for an automatic deduction, or add optional extras like LED memorial screens, buffet catering, or live music.

All funeral arrangement concierge packages include table cloth and seat covers, mobile toilet, fridge, and a 43-seater air-conditioned bus. Untick any of these for an automatic price deduction.

Step 5 — Personalise & Finalise

Add personal touches — photographs, favourite music, special readings, memorial items, or a memory song. Review your total and send it to us for confirmation. We will follow up to finalise all arrangements.
