How Airlines Calculate Air Waybill (AWB) Chargeable Weight
Airlines charge based on whichever is greater — the actual physical weight of the shipment OR the volumetric (dimensional) weight. Volumetric weight is calculated as: Length × Width × Height ÷ 6000. This means a large but lightweight casket can still incur high airfreight costs due to the space it occupies in the aircraft cargo hold.
Tip: Choose the Lightest Casket to Save on AWB
Since airfreight is charged per kilogram of chargeable weight, selecting a lighter casket directly reduces your total cost. An Eco/Simple casket typically weighs 35–45kg, while a Premium casket can weigh 75–85kg — a difference of up to 40kg, which translates to significant savings on your Air Waybill. We recommend choosing the lightest casket that meets your family's needs and preferences.
"Our quoted price for our repatriation service, fully inclusive from receiving your loved one in Singapore until handover to the receiving funeral provider in your destination country, including embalming, coffin, permits, consular documentation, airfreight / overland transport / chartered ferry, handling charges and destination coordination."

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE: Casket Size Limits in Singapore
Singapore’s crematoria (Mandai) and burial plots at Choa Chu Kang have fixed physical dimensions. If a casket exceeds these measurements, it cannot be processed. In such cases, a mandatory casket transfer will be required upon arrival in Singapore. This involves additional costs and can be an unnecessary emotional burden for the family. Kindly seek advice from your local repatriation specialist to verify the casket dimensions.
| Facility / Requirement | Maximum Length | Maximum Width | Maximum Height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mandai Crematorium | 213 cm (7 ft) | 76 cm (30 in) | 61 cm (24 in) |
| Choa Chu Kang Burial | 213 cm (7 ft) | 80 cm (31.5 in) | 61 cm (24 in) |

Why We Recommend the Eco Casket
The Eco Casket is lighter in weight, which means lower air freight charges on your Airway Bill (AWB). Since airlines charge by weight, a lighter casket saves you money. Premium and Exclusive caskets are heavier, so they will cost more in air freight. You are free to choose any casket based on your family's preferences and budget.

Lighter Casket = Lower Air Freight Cost
Airlines charge by weight. The Eco Casket weighs about 35–45kg, while Premium and Exclusive caskets weigh 75–85kg. That extra 40kg means higher air freight charges on your Air Waybill (AWB). Choosing the Eco Casket can save you a significant amount.
Airlines charge based on the higher of actual weight or volumetric weight (L × W × H ÷ 6000).

Send your loved ones' personal itemsWhy do regional airfreight costs differ?
Airfreight for repatriation is handled as specialized cargo. Prices vary significantly based on:
- Flight Duration: Longer routes (e.g., USA or Europe) consume more fuel and involve higher surcharges.
- Route Capacity: Major hubs with more daily flights offer more competitive rates than niche or low-traffic destinations.
- Infrastructure: Some regions require specialized handling equipment or incur higher airport landing and security fees.
- Chargeable Weight: Airlines calculate costs based on the physical space the crate occupies in the aircraft belly.
