Repatriation Cost Calculator to Airfreight Your Loved One Home
The Eternal Horizon Repatriation Cost Calculator gives families an instant, transparent estimate for international body repatriation from Singapore. Whether you need to send a loved one to Malaysia by overland transport, to India or Bangladesh by air freight, or to Batam by sea, this tool calculates a flat-rate price with no hidden GST. As a provider of comprehensive international repatriation services in Singapore, we handle overseas casket transport to and from Singapore — covering aviation-compliant embalming, hermetically sealed crating, consular documentation, and airway bill processing. Select your destination region, casket type, and logistics timing to receive an itemised breakdown below.
Cross-Border Documentation
Every repatriation requires statutory export permits (NEA/HSA), embassy consular documentation, death certificate verification, and where applicable, FEHD permits for Hong Kong or ICA letters for inbound cases. Our flat-rate estimate includes all documentation processing.
HUM Air Freight Transit
International repatriation by air uses IATA-compliant HUM (human remains) cargo handling. The estimate covers aviation-compliant embalming & certification, hermetically sealed zinc-lined wooden crate or outer flight tray, SATS Cargo Terminal handling at Changi, and airway bill issuance.
Overland & Sea Transit
For Malaysia, we offer overland repatriation via the Causeway and Second Link with full customs clearance. For Batam and nearby Indonesian islands, sea repatriation via ferry is available. Transit method affects the total cost and timeline.
What Affects the Cost of Repatriation from Singapore?
Several factors determine the final repatriation cost. The destination region is the primary driver — overland transport to Malaysia (Johor, Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, Penang) is the most economical, while air freight to South Asia (India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka), East Asia (China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong), Europe, or the Americas increases the airway bill and flight tray cost. The casket type also matters: an eco casket is the most affordable, while premium and hermetically sealed zinc-lined crates are required by certain destination countries. Timing — weekend or after-hours mobilisation — and optional add-ons such as cosmetic reconstruction, BioSeal containment, or embassy documentation for complex consular jurisdictions all factor into the estimate below.

Eco Casket (Recommended)
Premium Casket (Heavier)
Exclusive Casket (Heavier)
Toddler Casket
Why We Recommend the Eco Casket
The Eco Casket is lighter in weight, which means lower air freight charges on your Airway Bill (AWB). Since airlines charge by weight, a lighter casket saves you money. Premium and Exclusive caskets are heavier, so they will cost more in air freight. You are free to choose any casket based on your family's preferences and budget.
How Airlines Calculate Air Waybill (AWB) Chargeable Weight
Airlines charge based on whichever is greater — the actual physical weight of the shipment OR the volumetric (dimensional) weight. Volumetric weight is calculated as: Length × Width × Height ÷ 6000. This means a large but lightweight casket can still incur high airfreight costs due to the space it occupies in the aircraft cargo hold.
Lighter Casket = Lower Air Freight Cost
Airlines charge by weight. The Eco Casket weighs about 35–45kg, while Premium and Exclusive caskets weigh 75–85kg. That extra 40kg means higher air freight charges on your Air Waybill (AWB). Choosing the Eco Casket can save you a significant amount.
Airlines charge based on the higher of actual weight or volumetric weight (L × W × H ÷ 6000).

Send your loved ones' personal itemsWhy do regional airfreight costs differ?
Airfreight for repatriation is handled as specialized cargo. Prices vary significantly based on:
- Flight Duration: Longer routes (e.g., USA or Europe) consume more fuel and involve higher surcharges.
- Route Capacity: Major hubs with more daily flights offer more competitive rates than niche or low-traffic destinations.
- Infrastructure: Some regions require specialized handling equipment or incur higher airport landing and security fees.
- Chargeable Weight: Airlines calculate costs based on the physical space the crate occupies in the aircraft belly.
Estimates provided are based on current rates as of September 9, 2026. Eternal Horizon reserves the right to adjust final invoicing should there be an increment in fuel prices, airport taxation, embassy disbursements, or other statutory costs beyond our control.

Understanding the Repatriation Process & Permits
Repatriation from Singapore involves a coordinated sequence of statutory permits, consular documentation, and logistics. Below is an overview of the cross-border requirements that the calculator above accounts for.
Statutory Export Permits (NEA & HSA)
The National Environment Agency (NEA) and Health Sciences Authority (HSA) require a statutory export permit before any human remains can leave Singapore. This permit verifies that the death has been registered, the cause of death is non-infectious (or appropriately handled), and that aviation-compliant embalming has been completed by a NEA Licensed Senior Embalmer. Embalming is carried out in accordance with applicable Singapore requirements and airline/IATA requirements; destination-specific import requirements are confirmed case by case. Eternal Horizon handles this filing as part of every repatriation case.
Embassy & Consular Documentation
Each destination country requires its embassy or high commission in Singapore to issue a consular release or "no objection" certificate before the airline will accept the casket as cargo. The documentation complexity varies by region — East Asian countries (China, Japan, Korea) and European/American destinations typically require additional authentication steps, which is reflected in the embassy documentation fee tier in the calculator. For inbound repatriation (bringing a loved one home to Singapore), an ICA letter and, where applicable, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs clearance may be required.
Dedicated Repatriation to India, Philippines, Indonesia & Vietnam
We provide dedicated consular liaison and full-service repatriation from Singapore to India, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam — four of the most common destinations for families in Singapore. Our concierge team manages the complex documentation required by each country's embassy, including NEA export permits, embassy legalisation, death certificate translation, and coordination with receiving funeral directors in the destination country. Whether you need to send your loved one home to Manila, Mumbai, Jakarta, or Ho Chi Minh City, we ensure a respectful and seamless transfer with no bureaucratic stress for your family.
- India: High Commission of India consular release, death certificate apostille, and coordination with Indian funeral directors in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and other cities.
- Philippines: Philippine Embassy consular release, DFA authentication, and coordination with receiving funeral homes in Manila, Cebu, and Davao.
- Indonesia: Indonesian Embassy consular release, translation of documents into Bahasa Indonesia, and coordination with funeral directors in Jakarta, Surabaya, and Batam.
- Vietnam: Vietnamese Embassy consular release, death certificate legalisation, and coordination with receiving funeral services in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and other provinces.
Aviation-Compliant Embalming & Crating
All air freight repatriation requires aviation-compliant embalming certified by a NEA Licensed Senior Embalmer, plus an IATA-compliant outer flight tray or hermetically sealed zinc-lined wooden crate (zinc-lined where required by the destination country). The calculator lets you select between a standard eco casket, a premium casket, and add the zinc-lined crate or BioSeal containment system where required.
Transit Options: Air, Overland & Sea
Air Freight
HUM cargo via Changi Airport to 38+ countries. Fastest option for India, Bangladesh, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and beyond.
Overland (Malaysia)
Direct hearse transport via the Causeway or Second Link to Johor, Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, and Penang. Most economical option with customs clearance handled.
Sea (Batam / Riau)
Ferry-based sea repatriation to Batam, Bintan, and nearby Indonesian islands. A cost-effective alternative for short-distance maritime transport.

What Affects the Cost of Repatriation
Destination Country & Airport Distance
The single biggest cost driver. Nearby ASEAN destinations like Malaysia and Indonesia are significantly cheaper than Europe, the Americas, or Africa.
Transport Method (Overland vs Air Cargo)
Road transport to Malaysia is the most affordable option. Air freight (HUM cargo) is required for all other international destinations.
Embalming & Preparation Requirements
Aviation-compliant embalming is mandatory for all air repatriation. Some countries require additional certification or specific embalming standards.
Embassy / High Commission Documentation Fees
Each destination country's embassy charges different fees for consular mortuary certificates, NOCs, and document legalisation.
Coffin Type (Standard vs Zinc-Lined Sealed)
A zinc-lined soldered coffin is mandatory for most international destinations. Casket selection also affects the total cost.
Airline Cargo Rates (Vary by Carrier & Season)
HUM air freight rates fluctuate based on the airline, season, fuel surcharges, and route availability.
Receiving Funeral Home Fees at Destination
Local funeral home charges at the destination airport vary by country and provider — we coordinate but these are billed separately.

| Malaysia (JB / overland) | $1,800 – $3,500 |
